Death metal institution and Napalm recording artists Jungle Rot report the following regarding the departure of drummer Eric House: “Eric found himself in a personal crisis that demanded his utmost attention. Therefore, he had no choice but to leave the band. Since then, we have been jamming with our good friend Tony Ochoa (Sindrome, Speed Hate Kill) behind the kit, and things are sounding great! Tony is a ridiculously hard hitter and will be joining us on the road for the upcoming U.S. tour!”
In other news, Jungle Rot will soon be touring the US & Canada in support of the band’s latest album, What Horrors Await, released last year via Napalm Records. Support on this trek will come from Metal Blade recording artists Lightning Swords of Death and Woe of Tyrants. Comments founding vocalist/guitarist David Matrise: “We are stoked to get back out on the road in the U.S. and Canada! It’s been way too long! We expect to see you at the shows! No excuses! For all the fans in areas of the country we are not visiting on this tour, fret not! We will be doing more extensive touring in the spring after the release of our new album.”

Alas, the wait is over: Slovenian chaos-black metallers Bleeding Fist have posted online the new video for “Invocation Into Devil’s Flesh”! Coming off the recent Moribund release Macabrum Bestia Ex Abyssus and directed by Oton Bačar and Martin DeBernardi, BLEEDING FIST’s “Invocation Into Devil’s Flesh” literally unleashes hellfire and brimstone, and to date is the perfect visual embodiment of the band’s self-described “chaos black metal.” Witness that hellfire ‘n’ brimstone here:
In other Bleeding Fist news, the band recently destroyed stages at the Helvete gig in Oberhausen, Germany alongside such scene giants as Inquisition, Proclamation, Bestial Raids, and Blasphemophager. Above and below are photos from that gig.

On July 14 I got to sit down with the mighty Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, and he answered a couple questions of mine. Here is the video:

When: Wednesday July 8, 2010
Where: New City Likwid Lounge, Edmonton, Alberta
Long story short, a French death metal band called The Seven Gates were going to be destroying New City with Sonorous Odium as direct support, with Titan’s Eve and Auroch from Vancouver opening the show up. Shit goes down and suddenly The Seven Gates were not able to make it. Sent back to Frace from what I understand to be a passport issue. So Sonorous Odium were given the headliner slot. Now, onwards:
Titan’s Eve took the stage and very quickly impressed me and Mrs. Blaspheme. Their overall sound reminds me of Trivium without the polish, something still thrashy and much more raw. Before and after the set we ended up talking to Brian, their singer, and he’s definitely one of the most humble musicians I’ve met, and a really cool dude too. Wait for that video to hit the intertubes soon!
If you ever get the chance to check Titan’s Eve, do it.
A short while after Titan’s Eve left the stage, their fellow Vancouverites and brothers in metal Auroch stepped up with a very different approach to death metal, one that got them a few fans around the room. Mixing clean vocals, high falsettos, and gutterals all from the same throat, they sound a lot like Morbid Angel in the music department at times. Solos fly like bats out of hell, with intricate leads and intense rhythm, and Lovecraftian lyrics. Really fucking good, they definitely made sure that Sonorous Odium were going to have to be on their A-game.
Which, well, they were. Edmonton’s own pride and joy, Sonorous Odium play melodic death metal that reminds me of Arch Enemy (whom their guitarist sported a shirt by incidentally). They also pay some tribute to black metal in some riffs, going as far as covering Behemoth’s “Demigod” as a show closer. These guys fucking kick ass, and I think you’ll be hearing a lot of them over the next couple years. If not from others, at least from me.
In all, it was a great night. My first show upstairs in Likwid Lounge and I am not disappointed in the least, despite the headliner not showing up. Oh well, maybe next time they’ll make it.

On July 10th at Belvedere’s in Pittsburgh, PA, the Campaign For Death Metal Purity 2010 Tour featuring HOD, Cardiac Arrest and Gravehill will join forces with death metal pioneers Incantation along with Western Pennsylvania’s low-end sewage death metal masters Funerus and Pittsburgh’s premier death metal juggernauts Abysme under the banner of the Ibex Moon Records Fest. Ibex Moon Records owner and Incantation frontman, John McEntee comments on the event:
“We are very proud to bring this killer death metal event to Western Pennsylvania. There are a lot of great bands from this area along with a huge fan base. This will be the first time Incantation has played Pittsburgh in at least two years. For Funerus it’s been even longer, something like five years or more. This show will also feature performances by some of the best live death metal bands to emerge on the scene in quite some time. Gravehll, HOD, & Cardiac Arrest have all proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with. We hope with the success of this kick ass bill, we can bring more great death metal shows to the ‘Burgh. We look forward to a kick ass gig and hanging out with all our local friends.”
The first 25 people paid through the door will receive a free Fest T-shirt. Ibex Moon Records will be giving away additional prizes throughout the fest.
