Wino. He’s a legend, and probably doesn’t need an introduction. But if you’re not sure who Scott Weinrich is, just think of The Obsessed and St. Vitus, as well as a few other bands.
Wino returns with Adrift, a twelve track mostly acoustic album that’s a little different from what we’re used to hearing from him. The only non-acoustic songs are “O.B.E.”, a near ambient instrumental, and “Green Speed”, an electric bluesy rocker that really helps the whiskey flow.
This is probably not an every day album for most of Wino’s doom metal fans, and possibly not even an every day album for acoustic fans. It’s heavy, lyrically, and it takes some listening to fully digest. It’s very bluesy (and in this musical climate very ballsy) and as such full of songs devoted to biking (“Iron Horse/Born to Lose”), lost girlfriends (“Hold on Love”), and drinking (“Shot in the Head”).
If you’re into acoustic rock, get this album. If you just like Wino, get this album. And if you really just want to expand your musical horizons and check some blues out, get this album.
8 out of 10.
