Kill The Client – Set For Extinction

Kill The Client? Then how do you expect to get paid?

…yeah. Anyway, Set For Extinction is what happens when Kill The Client spends the majority of their recording days eating Cheetos and peyote buttons while listening to Total Fucking Destruction and Stalag: complete and total chaos in the form of disorganized, nihilistic grindcore!

The pace of this record is one of the fastest I’ve ever listened to! It’s completely out of the park in terms of albums that sound like a bench clearing brawl in the middle of Aunty Emma’s Antique Shoppe, completely with a small nuclear device!

But all hyperbole aside, this album does get way the hell up there on the crazy charts, yet it manages to keep cool and not fall apart and/or get really fucking boring as most albums of it’s ilk seem to do. Set For Extinction maintains a most enjoyable level of grindibility throughout it’s nineteen tracks with a massive variation between songs… aside from the velocity, of course!

Overall: While grind isn’t exactly my favorite genre, it’s slowing gaining ground thanks to albums like Set For Extinction.

Set to kick off this Wednesday, October 6th, Ufomammut will this time invade Spain, France, the UK and Holland, and will return to Denmark and Germany as well in support of the material on Eve.

Eve was released worldwide this past May on the band’s own Supernatural Cat Records, now distributed in North America by Relapse. The album is an infectious and utterly devastating piece of doom metal art which has engulfed doom-seekers the world over, as Ufomammut have consistently achieved on every record to date.

Stay tuned for more touring updates and band actions in the coming months.

Fuck The Facts – Disgorge Mexico the DVD

Posted in Reviews on May 16th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Genre: Grindcore
Label:
Relapse Records

Starting off with a couple shots of pre-show beginnings and a sample from an old anti-drug film, FTF’s Disgorge Mexico the DVD is a live show, the entire album Disgorge Mexico in all it’s glory, plus the song “The Pile of Flesh You Carry”, as well as a film by director David Hall, which is nice and slightly twisted.
The show itself is filmed by a couple cameras, showing different angles to the insane proceedings. Effect-laden post-production gives the entire proceedings a bit of a dirty look, an old film stock look, which really works well with not only the songs of Disgorge Mexico but also the sound of Fuck The Facts in general.
The high point of this DVD is the fact that not only do you get to see FTF fucking up a small club, but a really cool film with Disgorge Mexico as it’s soundtrack too.
The low point of it is the same for all live show DVDs: it makes you wish you were there, and it’s always kind of depressing to watch a killer show and wish you were there.
Despite that, this is such a killer fucking view and a killer fucking listen.
9 out of 10.

Nile – Legacy of the Catacombs

Posted in Reviews on May 15th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Nile - Legacy of the Catacombs

Genre: Death Metal
Label:
Relapse Records

I wasn’t really paying attention when I bought this. All I saw was Nile, Relapse, Digipak with either a second CD or a DVD. So I bought it.
And I’m not disappointed.
What this thing is, is a kind of “Greatest Hits” of Nile for their Relapse releases; three tracks from four albums, plus the second disc is a DVD with the videos for “Execration Text”, “Sarcophagus” (which my friend Thom loves the video for), and “Sacrifice Unto Sebek” (which I love the video for).
It’s probably not necessary for casual fans, but if you’re like me and you love metal on DVD, if you’re a huge Nile freak, or if you’re just getting into Nile and you really want a broad spectrum overview of their music, this is a perfect package to look into.
If only the DVD had more to it than three videos. Some interviews, behind the scenes antics, that kind of
stuff, would have been a better farewell to Nile from Relapse Records’ roster than what’s presented here.
CD: 9 out of 10.
DVD: 7 out of 10.

Jucifer – Throned in Blood

Posted in Reviews on March 2nd, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Jucifer - Throned in Blood

Genre: Doom, Drone, Sludge, Stoner
Label: Nomadic Fortress

So fucking wow. Not even done the first SONG and I’m thinking I know what this monster is going to get rated.
Then it gets even better.
Slow and heavy riffs that pay as much homage to Black Sabbath and Sunn O))) as to The Clash or The Sex Pistols (in spirit, not style), this is some seriously wicked awesome doomed out sludge. Something to smoke to, that’s for damn sure, and I think I’m going to try sleeping to it. It’s kind of relaxing in a violent sort of way.
Favorite song is definitely “Contempt”, with “Work Will Make Us Free” and “Hiroshima” following close behind.
After hearing hearing Throned in Blood I feel sorry for other doom and sludge bands. They’re going to have to step up their game to keep up with Amber and Edgar now. And fuck this is going to rule live. Earplugs might actually be an option for me if they make it to Edmonton again. But probably not because hearing aids are cool.
Just remember folks, April 6, 2010 this nuclear bomb of doom will drop on us. Grab it while it’s hot hot hot.
