Impiety - Ravage and Conquer

Genre: Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash
Label: Pulverised Records
Format: Digital Promo (Earsplit PR)

Impiety are no strangers to the metal masses. Formed 21 years ago, they’ve been releasing album after EP after album of their own blend of black, death and thrash. Some releases have been better than others, but with their newest album, Ravage & Conquer, Impiety seem to be taking a faster route to awesome.
The drums are faster and more technical, solid as bedrock, and wonderfully complimentary to the thrashtastic (and catchy) riffage emanating from Shyaithan’s and Nizam Aziz’s amps. If only they weren’t triggered to the nines, but rather all natural, I think they would sound better.
The lead solos from Nizam bend the mind just as much as the strings, their speed and clarity astounding.
Shyaithan also takes credit for the bass, and though he’ll never be called thrash’s best bassist, he is a great player that locks in pretty much perfectly with the drums and the rhythm guitar.
The death metal elements that Impiety are known for are a little more subdued with Ravage & Conquer, the album taking a more thrash approach, which is even overshadowing much of the blackened elements (other than the vocals, of course). Some fans might not be thrilled by this, but I know I’m enjoying this, and I prefer black and death over thrash!
My favorite tracks are “Revelation Decimation”, “Weaponized”, and “Legacy of Savagery”.

Ulcer: Polish Death Metallers Join The Pulverised Roster

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Polish death metallers Ulcer are the latest inductees to the expanding Pulverised Records roster. Formed in 2006, the young Ulcer consists of past and present members from Blaze Of Perdition, Squashed Bowels, Deivos and Abusiveness. The band recorded two demos in 2006 and a debut full-length album entitled Serpent Trinity in 2007.

Ulcer‘s Pulverised debut, entitled Grant Us Death, is currently underway with an expected release date later this year. Artwork and track listing to be unveiled soon.

Comments Ulcer frontman D. (aka Sonneillon) of the signing: “We are proud to join the ranks of the well-known and respected label Pulverised Records. When we were searching for a label to release our new material, we wanted to find someone who not only can offer decent conditions, but also knows what death metal is about. We’ve never had an urgent need to release anything anywhere. We just needed a label that understands what we do, and to put it simply: Pulverised is perfect for us – nothing more, nothing less. It’s a privilege to praise death along with such great names as Desultory, Impiety, Interment, Master, Nominon and Tribulation, who are all ravenous as hell. We’ll do our best to prove that we are worthy to be a part of this great label with our album Grant Us Death. Expect nothing but raging death metal inferno in its pure and classic form. ONLY DEATH IS HOLY!”

Added Pulverised Records A&R manager Calvin Chiang : “When we first heard two recently-recorded tracks from Ulcer, it was very clear to us that these guys mean serious business! The raw essence of ugly-as-fuck, in-your-face ’90s death metal yet with thought-out [song] structures are all very much evident; but Ulcer emits a certain darkness and morbidity that sets them apart. The band sent their raw mixes from the upcoming album Grant Us Death and just judging from these raw tracks, the new album will be an unbridled mix of violent and macabre old school death metal!”

Ulcer is:
D. (aka Sonneillon) – Vocals
Angelfuck – Vocals
LucaSS – Guitar
Mscislaw (aka Revenger) – Guitar
Kamil “Szwed” – Bass
Wizun – Drums

Bastard Priest – Under the Hammer of Destruction

Bastard Priest - Under the Hammer of Destruction

Genre: Death Metal
Label: Pulverised Records, Blood Harvest Records

With a name like Bastard Priest you can’t really go wrong, right? Right? Kinda.
See, this here album Under the Hammer of Destruction is pretty kickass. It’s an old school death head’s wet dream, something that could fit in your collection with Death, early Deicide, Grave Ritual, Gravehill, Darkthrone, etc. But it doesn’t really bring anything new to the scene at all, unfortunately. And maybe that’s the point, and I’m just crazy.
But, at the same time, it does have some really killer solos, and some intense tones. Nothing too fancy as far as technique goes, keeping the main riffage simple and effective. But least affective is the vocals. Rather buried in the background at times, and a little on the samey side, with similar delivery each song, they could have had some variation going on.
In the end, Bastard Priest are pretty good. Nothing I’d reach for on a regular basis, but this is definitely some of you reader’s preferred choice I’m sure. Check ‘em out yourself.

In Mourning - Monolith

Genre: Melodic Death Metal, Progressive Death Metal
Label:
Pulverised Records

In Mourning’s newest album is a crushingly heavy but beautifully melodic death metal disc. Bringing in little bits of doom, black metal, progressive metal, and straight up rock, I find it hard to find anything bad to say about this album at all.
I’d recommend it for fans of similar fare, such as Opeth, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, and Anathema. Actually, after writing that sentence, I’d say pretty much think Peaceville, and you’ll do fine. It wouldn’t surprise me if Peaceville ended up working with these gents in the future.
