Ulcer: Polish Death Metallers Join The Pulverised Roster

Posted in Album Update, News on January 14th, 2011 by General Blaspheme

Polish death metallers Ulcer are the latest inductees to the expanding Pulverised Records roster. Formed in 2006, the young Ulcer consists of past and present members from Blaze Of Perdition, Squashed Bowels, Deivos and Abusiveness. The band recorded two demos in 2006 and a debut full-length album entitled Serpent Trinity in 2007.

Ulcer‘s Pulverised debut, entitled Grant Us Death, is currently underway with an expected release date later this year. Artwork and track listing to be unveiled soon.

Comments Ulcer frontman D. (aka Sonneillon) of the signing: “We are proud to join the ranks of the well-known and respected label Pulverised Records. When we were searching for a label to release our new material, we wanted to find someone who not only can offer decent conditions, but also knows what death metal is about. We’ve never had an urgent need to release anything anywhere. We just needed a label that understands what we do, and to put it simply: Pulverised is perfect for us – nothing more, nothing less. It’s a privilege to praise death along with such great names as Desultory, Impiety, Interment, Master, Nominon and Tribulation, who are all ravenous as hell. We’ll do our best to prove that we are worthy to be a part of this great label with our album Grant Us Death. Expect nothing but raging death metal inferno in its pure and classic form. ONLY DEATH IS HOLY!”

Added Pulverised Records A&R manager Calvin Chiang : “When we first heard two recently-recorded tracks from Ulcer, it was very clear to us that these guys mean serious business! The raw essence of ugly-as-fuck, in-your-face ’90s death metal yet with thought-out [song] structures are all very much evident; but Ulcer emits a certain darkness and morbidity that sets them apart. The band sent their raw mixes from the upcoming album Grant Us Death and just judging from these raw tracks, the new album will be an unbridled mix of violent and macabre old school death metal!”

Ulcer is:
D. (aka Sonneillon) – Vocals
Angelfuck – Vocals
LucaSS – Guitar
Mscislaw (aka Revenger) – Guitar
Kamil “Szwed” – Bass
Wizun – Drums

Watain’s “Reaping Death” Single Goes Gold

Posted in News on August 21st, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Erik Danielsson With "Reaping Death" Gold

“Reaping Death” the latest single from Swedish black metal battalion Watain, was certified gold in Sweden for sales in excess of 10,000 copies. Earlier this week, the band was awarded their gold record in Stockholm in the presence of press and various guests. Said frontman Erik Danielsson at the presentation: “‘Reaping Death’ is a song written as a tribute to the first murderer and Satanist, Cain. Through the murder of his brother Abel, he was the first to break the shackles of creation and went against the will of God. Therefore, he was pushed away and found his way to his true father, the serpent in the Garden of Eden, also known as Satan. To openly praise Cain, his origin, his works and his offspring is something that never would have been possible, say 300 years ago. 300 years ago they tied people such as us up and burned them alive. Now we are awarded gold discs and praise in the media. This is an encouraging proof that this road is leading to hell.

“Through black metal,” he continued, “we now have a forum, in which we, without being persecuted and tortured, can celebrate the ancient ruin forces, revolutions and the gods of total liberation, and thus give them additional force. This gold disc is proof that the genre as such is one to be reckoned with, and with fire, fanaticism and passion as the driving force, we intend to take it even further, deep down in still unexplored abysses. We also would like to thank Sound Pollution, Season of Mist, Sweden Rock and ‘Boss’ at Black Mark.”

“Reaping Death” comes off Watain‘s Lawless Darkness full-length released via Season Of Mist this past June. Lawless Darkness was recorded at Necromorbus Studio (Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist, Ondskapt, Nominon, Unanimated et al) in Alvik, Sweden and features cover art by Zbigniew M. Bielak.

Nominon – Monumentomb

Posted in Reviews on May 1st, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Nominon - Monumentomb

Genre: Death Metal
Label: Deathgasm Records

Out of the gate Nominon’s Monumentomb is a killer monument to death metal. Old schoolers who miss the classic 80s and 90s death metal scene from Sweden are going to love this album, filled with brutal drumming, intense bass, and Metalgasmic solos.  New school fans of death who want a nice ticket to learn the ways of the older death metal, this is a perfect intro to it.
These guys have been around since ‘93, and since then they’ve put out, including Monumentomb, nineteen releases, so they aren’t no Johnny-come-lately band on the scene either. They know their shit, and it definitely shows in songs like “Mantra Reverse”, “Undead Beast”, and “Omen”.
It’s a mid-paced death with a creepy vibe going on, and it’s definitely my kind of metal. It’s not something that’s made by guys who are willing to compromise their ideas for someone else. This is highly recommended.
8.5 out of 10.
