or, ganic Gets Ready for Pre-Production

Posted in Album Update, News on September 12th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Funeral Rain Records’ newest signing, or, ganic, is getting ready to begin pre-production on the next E.P., tentatively titled amethyst. Rough sketch tracks have been recorded for three songs, each nearing the ten minute mark.
Says nobody of or, ganic, “These songs are bringing more of an abstract element in, especially with the final organ overlay, which will be improvised on the spot for the recording.” And as per his usual writing style, there will be no other instruments used, nor vocals.
amethyst will be available through Funeral Rain Records as a free download, and if the fans demand it, a limited CD with an or, ganic patch.  or, ganic‘s debut E.P. if the flavor of hatred is inside your mouth… is available for free here.

Pogrom – The Wolf In The Fog

Posted in Reviews on July 12th, 2010 by Typhon

Genre: Black Metal
Label:
Funeral Rain Records

Ah. Another year, another release from the Canadian black metal entity known as Pogrom. Clocking in at twenty-three minutes long over six twisted tracks, The Wolf In The Fog appears to be the heftiest offering from the one man black metal machine. Maestro of the macabre, General Blaspheme conjures up some fetid demons with every stroke of his pen and lumbering giants with every strum of his guitar as we’ve seen in past efforts (like 2009’s WON).

In The Wolf In The Fog, G.B. goes for a more vicious, speedy style that leaps for the throat! Does it tear out jugular? …not quite. Sure, it’s A LOT faster than the dirge-y funeral crawls that we found in WON, but it’s missing something. Order, I believe. Sure, lots of great black metal projects are born from and thrive in chaos. But, The Wolf In The Fog seems a little to erratic for it’s own good. That and the drum machine gets a little grating.

But that’s not saying that this album is a failure. No sir, not at all. Tracks like the blackened grind shorty This Is A Funeral and doomy Antideluvian Origin are real sleeper gems!

Overall: General Blaspheme lands another blow to the face of divinity with The Wolf In The Fog… which now that I think about it, I hope isn’t a gay Cradle Of Filth semi-reference… Either way, check it out. It’s worth a listen if you dig no name Canadian metal projects.

7.5/10

Funeral Rain Records SuperComp

Posted in Album Update, News on June 27th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

NOTE: THIS MAY BE EDITED IN THE FUTURE. EDITS ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN.

There are some major changes happening with what I’ve been calling the SuperComp.
It seems that all too many bands are interested in the idea I’ve had, but no one really wants to commit, except a very small few. So I’m going to make some changes to the compilation itself, to hopefully make everything better for everyone.
The packaging will no longer be a 4-panel Digipak, but rather a jacket, much like a record sleeve, which means I am now only looking for three artists. One for the front, one for the back, one for the CD face.
Everyone on the compilation, artists and bands alike, will recieve 25 copies of the CD, and everyone pays $100 to help cover the production and shipping costs of the CD (what was originally the price for an artist while bands were to pay $150).
More copies can be made available at cost, so if you want more than 25 it can definitely be arranged.
Finally, this will be a PROFESSIONALLY pressed CD. Not a CDR. There will be the requisite shrink wrap and barcode, everything that would make this CD available in a store like HMV or on Amazon.
Any questions, please comment the MySpace blog post. Thank you.

Sri Lankan War Machines

Posted in Album Update on March 3rd, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Funeral Rain Records is currently in negotiation with some Sri Lankan bands to produce a compilation. If things go as planned, it will be called Sri Lankan War Machines, and will feature ten bands in the black metal vein, with some thrash and death as well.
It will be released as a free digital download and a limited physical release for hardcore fans.

Watch for more info…
