It is without sadness whatsoever that I am announcing my decision to end Pogrom.
I started writing these blackened tunes in April of 2008, my first song being the demo version of “Leaves”. I ended up writing another three songs, releasing the four together as WON, my first demo. This demo I burned off in January 2009, writing Funeral Rain Records on them with the tracklisting, FR01, a Pogrom logo, and a note on the slim case’s cover all in Sharpie on Memorex CD-R. I gave a couple copies out, I sold a couple, and I left a bunch at the HMV in West Edmonton Mall.
In all about 35 to 40 are out in the world.
I began writing for the Hegoxuri split soon after, then the Intra Tenebrae split. These songs came fairly easily for me, I was full of piss and vinegar.
The Wolf in the Fog came soon after that, and it was finished relatively quickly as well, but it was not released until a year later, in 2010. Between the finishing of TWitF and it’s release I worked on a couple things, most notably Funeral Rain Records and Funeral Rain Zine, launching the website you’re currently on right now. Then the music started to flow again, this time taking my aim at a more ambient exploration.
Then it dried up. And so did my desire to write more Pogrom, regardless of the genre.
There will be a final release of Pogrom. It will consist of WON, The Wolf in the Fog, and a bunch of unreleased material all in a digipak CD. And since there are a few actual fans out there who might buy this, you’ll also be getting a patch and a poster and a pin with your purchase, and perhaps more. Most of the price I will ask from you will be shipping, making probably no profit from the release at all, if indeed taking a loss. Once I figure out the full details of what the release will be and it’s final cost, you will all know as well.
For the fans: thanks for supporting in your ways. For the bands I’ve done splits with: Hegoxuri, Intra Tenebrae, Plecto, Raaksha, thank you immensely. You’ve helped in ways you’ll probably never fully know. If you’re still reading this: order a CD and help out Funeral Rain. I think it deserves your attention and support. Thank you.
