This here is an oddity from the Netherlands. The Kandidate are mixing a couple unlikely elements from three genres and turning it all into their own thing. There’s the basic framework of thrash, with some small death metal elements, and tons of hardcore, probably New York style (I don’t know a lot of hardcore, so I don’t know exactly), and hardcore’s brother genre, punk.
But don’t think of this as some kind of metalcore or deathcore; rather think of it as The Kandidatecore.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this, and I can understand why Typhon enjoyed it a lot too. Personally I only know Jacob Bredahl (vocals) from some of his work with HateSphere (never really heard lots of them), and the other guys are all pretty new to the scene so I don’t know them at all. But from what I’ve heard from Until We Are Outnumbered, I hope this band is around for a loooooooong time. This is awesome.

I was an instant fan of The Kandidate once I saw that Jacob Bredahl had vocal duties (you may remember him from such bands as: Barcode, Allhelluja and Hateshpere). Throw in the fact that this is one hardcore, thrashin’ outfit and I was hooked for good!
Until We Are Outnumbered is The Kandidate’s debut outing and it’s one hell of a debut if you ask me! Take everything that Dew-Scented has ever done and multiply the thrashing rage by twenty and add a drop of hardcore ‘tude (say, old school D.R.I. or even Venomous Concept in some spots) and you’ll have what this album is all about, down! The string slingin’ carves grooves a mile deep and about as heavy as Q-Tip on Jupiter and drummer Nik kicks ’n beats his way into this reviewer’s Awesome List with his efforts in “Live A Lie” and “Enemy”! Vocally, Mr. Bredahl pulls out some pretty awe inspiring hardcore shouts and roars that nudge him up there with Tomas Lindberg in my book!
Overall: Until We Are Outnumbered rages all the way to the infirmary only to rage some more! If you dig aggressive beats and melody without the whining vocals and tight pants, then look no further than The Kandidate!
