Corpsessed To Unleash Debut EP Through Dark Descent Records

Corpsessed

Finnish death metal outfit Corpsessed has signed with Dark Descent Records for the CD release of their self-titled debut EP. Scheduled for an early 2011 release, the EP features six tracks of bludgeoning old-school death in the vein of Entombed, Incantation, Deicide, Immolation and Grave. Select tracks from the EP have been posted on the band’s official MySpace site, while more information on Corpsessed can be found on their Facebook page.

Corpsessed was spawned from putrescent slime in 2007, after the dissolution of an earlier project Skullfucker. Vocalist Niko Matilainen (Skullfucker), guitarist Matti Mäkelä (Tyranny, Wormphlegm) and drummer Jussi-Pekka Manner (Skullfucker, Pohjoinen Kuri) were joined by guitarist Jyri Lustig (Cardinals Folly) and the (de)composing of morbid death metal tunes began at the rotting houses of the Järvenpää delta-area.

The group’s original bass player Mikko Mäkelä disappeared in unknown circumstances, but was replaced in 2009 by Mikko Pöllä (Azure).

Look for Corpsessed‘s debut EP out soon on Dark Decent Records (CD only), with vinyl treatment coming courtesy of French label Ostra Records.

Grave Ritual – Euphoric Hymns from the Altar of Death

Grave Ritual - Euphoric Hymns from the Altar of Death

Genre: Death Metal
Label: Dark Descent Records

Eurphoic Hymns from the Altar of Death starts off a little odd; an honestly weak intro goes into some seriously awesome death metal. Gets you thinking “Aw damn, this one might not be that great,” then kicks you in the jaw.
Heavy as a hammer and full of that old school filth that all too many modern audiences just don’t get, Grave Ritual are supplying a nice little slab of brutality that is not full of fancy studio trickery, clean sounds, or hyper-fast technicality that comes out sounding more like noise than anything.
In fact, there is pretty much no technicality whatsoever with this album. It’s like Bloodbath’s old motto: Brutality Through Simplicity.
This is perfect for fans of Gravehill, Horrendous, Darkthrone’s first album, etc. I think you should check it out, but the only way to get it right now is vinyl.

Adversarial – All Idols Fall Before the Hammer

Adversarial - All Idols Fall Before the Hammer

Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Label:
Dark Descent Records

Adversarial’s blackened death is an intense, snare-filled odyssey of madness. And I like it.
It’s mostly fast-paced with great blasts and really intricate, interesting, and original riffs. Which is not exactly something heard in a lot of metal nowadays. Vocals are somewhat buried, forcing your to listen closer to hear them. They’re a mix between gutteral death growls and the occasional black metal scream, and really cool sounding.
There isn’t much else folks; Adversarial’s All Idols Fall Before the Hammer kicks ass.

Horrendous – Sweet Blasphemies

Horrendous - Sweet Blasphemies

Genre: Death Metal
Labels:
Dark Descent Records, Skeleton Plague Records

In only five songs Horrendous have not only caused scar tissue to form on my eardrums, but they’ve also played pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear today. This is DEATH METAL, uncompromising and brutal, and full of those gross and sickly lyrics fans of death metal love. Like me. Throw in a little bit of Christian bashing and you’ve got a fucking gem of a tape.
Yeah. That’s right. TAPE. That’s the only way you can get this release, through Dark Descent or Skeleton Plague, and don’t expect to pay much to get it into your grubby paws either; they’re only five bucks per tape.
This thing is for fans of Darkthrone’s Soulside Journey, Nihilist, Entombed, and similar old school death metal.
