Lord Foul – Killing, Raping, Burning / The Devil’s Advocate

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Genre: Black Metal

Label: Forever Plagued Records

AHHHHHHH!!!! Shit! Carnival Of Souls used to scare the fuck out of me as a kid and this album cover almost made me piss myself a little… I think Lord Foul would of wanted it that way. Anyway, this split album is actually two of Lord Foul’s old demos (Killing, Raping, Burning from 1993 and The Devil’s Advocate from 1994) sandwiched together and remastered for your listening pleasure.

Interesting Factimaziod: Lord Foul (sole member: Roach) started off as a supposed joke band to parody black metal under the name Rectal Christ. But for some reason, Roach decided against that, changed the name to Lord Foul and started playing serious black metal. Many were thankful.

Killing, Raping, Burning – I can immediately hear where the joke band potential stems from. This guy sounds like Err, the short pink Mooninite trying to cover Cold Winds And Funeral Dust! Other than that, it’s all short and fucking sweet, lo-fi black metal (the longest song being two minutes and forty six seconds)!

The Devil’s Advocate – More of the same, really. There are some improvements vocally and production wise. In this section of the split, you can also tell that Roach used to be in a grindcore band as the riffs are more vicious and rapid that in KRB. I guess the ADD addled run times of the tracks are a dead giveaway as well…

A gripe that I MUST throw out there is that if you’re going to have a demo with six or so songs on them and they only mostly clock in at barely over a minute, why would you start off 90% of them with a thirty second sound clip?

Overall: If you fancy yourself a collect of all things underground in the realm of black metal, then this intensely evile demo combination of putrid blackened metal is just for you.

Anthrosphere Volume II

Genres: Doom, Hardcore, Sludge
Label: Anthropic Records

Philadelphia’s own Anthropic Records lets another free compilation CD out of it’s doors, and it’s chock full of Philly’s greatest doomsayers and sludge masters.
It features tracks from Bubonic Bear (“Throat Cancer Mountain”, 8), Wormrider (“Heroic Brew”, 7), The Green Evening Requiem (“Debilitation Tide”, 9), Ladder Devils (“Pyramid”, 8), Distress Signal (“Untitled”, 7), Thee Nosebleeds (“Fenderhead”, 7), Deathbeds (“Danny Husk”, 9), Vulcan (“Stranger in Black”, 7), and Dirt Worshipper (“The Absence of Color and Light”, 9).
In all, it’s pretty fucking sweet, and a good way to wreck your eardrums. If you’re into doom and sludge, it’s perfect, especially since it has a nice hardcore edge to some of the songs to throw in some variety.
8 out of 10.

Funeral Rain Records Announces Changes to Compilation

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

There have been some changes made to the Funeral Rain Records compilation Into the Mouth of Hell, and how it works. Bands have three options to choose from to help promote their music, rather than just the one.
For more details, check out the FRR site here.

Funeral Rain Records Presents “Into the Mouth of Hell”

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

Funeral Rain Records, as many now know, has been working on a Pay-To-Play compilation, with the working title of just SuperComp. The compilation has been officially titled, however, and Funeral Rain Records is proud to announce Into the Mouth of Hell as the title.
So far, several bands from several genres have signed onto the compilation. This is the original goal of Into the Mouth of Hell, to get several scenes exposed in other areas, to let fans of black metal, death metal, grindcore, punk, and more get a taste of something different. However, FRR is still looking for bands that want their music pushed out into different areas.
If you’re interested in being on this compilation, the following are the full details:

  • $100 USD (payable through PayPal or money order).
  • 5 minutes of track time.
  • 1000 copies pressed total.
  • Bands get 25 CDs.
  • Bands can get more at Cost +$1.
  • Professionally pressed CD, not CDR.
  • You will need to sign a release form for the song. Download it here.

Email funeralrainrecords@hotmail.com with the subject header SuperComp or Into the Mouth of Hell if you are interested in being on the compilation. Do NOT send tracks unannounced. If you do, your email will be deleted. Thank you for understanding.

Funeral Rain Records SuperComp

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

NOTE: THIS MAY BE EDITED IN THE FUTURE. EDITS ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN.

There are some major changes happening with what I’ve been calling the SuperComp.
It seems that all too many bands are interested in the idea I’ve had, but no one really wants to commit, except a very small few. So I’m going to make some changes to the compilation itself, to hopefully make everything better for everyone.
The packaging will no longer be a 4-panel Digipak, but rather a jacket, much like a record sleeve, which means I am now only looking for three artists. One for the front, one for the back, one for the CD face.
Everyone on the compilation, artists and bands alike, will recieve 25 copies of the CD, and everyone pays $100 to help cover the production and shipping costs of the CD (what was originally the price for an artist while bands were to pay $150).
More copies can be made available at cost, so if you want more than 25 it can definitely be arranged.
Finally, this will be a PROFESSIONALLY pressed CD. Not a CDR. There will be the requisite shrink wrap and barcode, everything that would make this CD available in a store like HMV or on Amazon.
Any questions, please comment the MySpace blog post. Thank you.
