Cannibal Corpse: Reigning Kings of Death Metal Set to Release Twelfth Studio Album

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Artwork, Track Listing And First Single Unveiled

America’s reigning kings of brutality, Cannibal Corpse, will unleash their twelfth studio offering this March via Metal Blade Records. Aptly titled Torture, the follow-up to 2009′s Evisceration Plague offers up 12 tracks of maniacally precise, soul-searing death metal. Torture was again produced by Hate Eternal‘s Erik Rutan at his own Mana Recording Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and features the maniacal cover art by longtime Cannibal Corpse artist, Vincent Locke.

Cannibal Corpse - Torture

While Torture marks the latest progression in the band’s sound, it also witnesses a return to what drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz accurately terms “the frenzied attack of Butchered At Birth (1991) or Tomb Of The Mutilated (1992),” infusing the band’s advanced musicianship with the raw savagery that haunted their earlier releases, and in the process conceiving the definitive Cannibal Corpse record. Adds bassist Alex Webster on the outcome of the record: “We’re extremely happy with how Torture turned out. Erik Rutan did an amazing job with the production, and the songwriting and performances may be our strongest yet. We can’t wait until our fans get to hear the whole thing!”

Witness the gutting sounds of “Demented Aggression,” the band’s first single, as well as studio footage, at the official Cannibal Corpse landing page, at THIS LOCATION.

Belphegor – Blood Magick Necromance

Belphegor - Blood Magick Necromance

Genres: Blackened Death Metal, Melodic Black Metal
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

Belphegor’s blackened death is much more death this time around, taking a huge step towards Morbid Angel worship (especially in the second song, “Rise To Fall And Fall To Rise”), but still full of blackened atmosphere and Satanic intent.
Technicality in the instruments is pushed, while production of the album as a whole is catapulted. Each instrument is heard as it’s separate little whole within the whole, and Helmuth’s voice is even more evil, sometimes taking on a more David Vincent/Domination underwater sound effect to affect the listener more. Melody is present, even in the vocals, and wonderfully used to obtain some of the most catchy blackened death ever recorded.
The art, like all Belphegor albums, is gorgeous. Nudes, animal heads, and Photoshop are all used wonderfully to create a perfect companion to the listening experience.
This one is for fans of Morbid Angel, Behemoth, and Lucifer himself.

Hate – Erebos

Hate - Erebos

Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Label: Listenable Records

Polish masters of blackened death, Hate sound in some ways a lot like Behemoth. They’ve got a similar vocal style and music writing, but there seems to be less of a black metal atmosphere to Hate’s music, taking a more direct death metal approach.
And fuck is it great. Not a note is wasted, not a breath is in vain; Erebos goes for the throat of the religious and the weak with seemingly no regard for the safety of those that get in the way.
The production of the album lets you hear everything, each guitar, each bassline, each drum kick, snare, cymbal and tom, allowing for maximum air instruments. The vocals of ATF Sinner are deep and evil, and you’ll soon find yourself invisible-oranging to them without conscious thought.
Erebos is nearly a perfect album, and if you’re into Behemoth, Morbid Angel, or Death you should get it.

Withering Soul – No Closure

Withering Soul - No Closure

Genres: Melodic Death Metal, Symphonic Black Metal
Label: Mortal Music

Another killer release from the small but strong label Mortal Music, Withering Soul’s mix of melodeath and symphoblack is something just short of stunning. It sounds more like a band from the UK or Scandinavia, but these dudes are from Chicago(!).
Throat ripping vocals are coupled with great blast beats and gorgeous, dark gothic keyboards, with furious guitar and bass riffs that will shatter car windows and your very soul.
They’re pretty much perfect for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Behemoth, Dark Tranquillity, and Abigail Williams.
Favorite tracks are “Posession of Deception (Part 2)”, “The Sequitor”, and “Lifeless They Lie”.
The album is coming out in March, grab it.
