Withershin – The Hungering Void
Genre: Black Metal
Label: Canonical Hours
This is Withershin’s second release with Canonical Hours and from what I can tell from the sound of it, it won’t be their last. These four Swedish ambassadors of Amon lay out some pretty tasty black metal with influences spanning Burzum to Immortal to Nifelheim.
The Hungering Void switches franticly from sardonically vile to thick, funeral style black metal and back at a seconds notice. Withershin has produced an E.P. that is pretty much everything I look for in a black metal release: raspy/death vocals, evil riffs that morph into transcendent solos and finally, dirge-y sluggishness coupled with speedspeedspeed!!! Now granted, there isn’t anything really new floating within The Hungering Void, but it’s still pretty damned enjoyable and done up very well production-wise.
Overall: The void appears to be hungering for ravenous fans of any of the sub-sub genres of black metal to fall in and be treated to a three track tease of blistering black metal. And the album art is awesome too!
