Death metal on DVD. This is just cool. This thing shows up in my mailbox, and at first I thought it was a CD in a DVD case, which I like. But taking a quick look at it and it’s actually a DVD, I got excited. Threw it in, and let it rip.
Apparently Verminoso is Soturnus Skillcrusher’s 2009 demo, and for a demo it’s great. Two shows, one twenty minutes long, the other ten, and some really good songs are presented in a high quality fashion.
If you’re into really good death metal with solid riffs, check these guys out. And if you’re into seeing shows without being at the actual show, grab a copy of Verminoso. It’s really good.

This is one of the coolest sounding albums I’ve heard in awhile. It’s got everything here, and it’s just so damn good. A little bit of death metal riffing, some black metal, a touch of electronics, tons of progressive influence, and some classic pure metal. Finishing his “A” trilogy with After, Ihsahn is not pulling any punches. It’s a classic and it’s only a week old as I write this.
Ihsahn’s voice, despite the great music, is the true star of this album. He’s got such amazing strength and power in his vocal delivery, whether it be the deep blackened style in “Undercurrent” or the sorrowful, plaintive delivery in the same song. He honestly kind of reminds me of Mikael Åkerfeldt at times, while still keeping his own sound.
Saxophone and eight string guitars bring another level of depth and heaviness to the album. The drums are awesome, with a nice pop on the snare and deep kicks, the bass rumbles perfect lines that both compliment the song and progress it.
Metalheads, listen up. Get this album. It’s not Emperor, it’s not Thou Shalt Suffer, it’s not Peccatum, and it’s not Zyklon-B. It’s all of them. And none of them. It’s wonderful and amazing.

Holy shit. Right from the start Fear Factory are kicking my ass, and they sure are not interested in stopping.
Opening with the title track, the first album in five years shows no slowing down, no age. Burton’s voice is vicious with a clipped delivery, fast and angry as hell, but in the clean vocal areas his voice soars into a powerful scratchy baritone. Dino’s riffs are equally vicious, razor sharp, and the only reason they don’t go for the killing blow is Rhys Fulber’s keyboard work helping to hold them in check.
Favorite tracks are “Controlled Demolition”, “Christploitation” (which in is such a cool song title), and the title track “Mechanize”.
If you’re an oldschool FF fan, you’ll love this album. If you’re new to the band, I honestly suggest you start here. This would be an amazing introduction to Fear Factory.
