Pelican - What We All Come To Need

PELICAN’s Southern Lord Recordings debut full-length What We All Come To Need - originally released in October – will be issued in double-LP format on February 23rd. The deluxe vinyl version bears a beautiful heavyweight gatefold jacket, and the fourth side of the release contains three bonus tracks not available on the CD version.

In celebration of the vinyl release of the album PELICAN will play a hometown show in Chicago on March 12th alongside PINEBENDER and FOLLOWS (ex-Russian Circles). This record release show will also be the sole location to purchase PELICAN’s Ephemeral Bean Blend; the band’s own limited edition collaboration with Intelligentsia Coffee of Chicago. The band states: “The richest, most complex flavors take patience and skill to craft and are over far too quickly. In that spirit we are proud to present this blend of coffee beans, who have known artisan care from their moment of inception at the farms at which they were grown to the roastery where their delicate nuances were honed to perfection by the skilled craftsmen at Intelligentsia. Enjoy the moment while it lasts.”

PELICAN will also take part in the recently-announced Scion Rock Fest in Columbus, Ohio on March 13th. The free event features more than 20 bands including SHRINEBUILDER, YOB, ABSU, D.R.I., CANNIBAL CORPSE, VOIVOD, TRAP THEM and more. See the full lineup here: http://www.scion.com/rock.

GORGOROTH Issue Bootleg Warning

Posted in News on January 25th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Infernus of Gorgoroth

In a message from GORGOROTH mainman Infernus: “According to several major online retailers, a new GORGOROTH CD called Forces of Satan Storms is supposed to be released on January 26, 2010, by a company called IMV Blueline. This has understandably led to some confusion, as no such release has been announced on the official GORGOROTH website. I would therefore like to make it clear to all that this CD is to be considered a bootleg, as it has not been sanctioned by the band. Also, to the best of my knowledge, this CD has been successfully stopped and will not be released at all.”

Days of Night – Whispering Earth

Posted in Reviews on January 25th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Genres: Avant-garde Black Metal, Metalcore
Label: Independent

Ya know, even calling this CD avant-garde black metal is a stretch. I don’t know what the fuck this is. And again, just like the last CD that gave me these kinds of troubles, this band is Irish.
The hell is wrong with you Irish people? Why can’t you just make my job easy?
How to describe this? Picture a violent Coheed and Cambria with Hellhammer on the drums and Adam Dutkiewicz doing some vocals while someone punches him in the mouth and you’re kind of there.
Either way, Days of Night are fucking amazing. It’s brutal as fuck with tons of melody, and it’s pretty fucking kvlt too. This is definitely an 8.5 out of 10. It’s a genre creating mess of metal that you should look into getting.

Darkthrone – Panzerfaust

Posted in Reviews on January 25th, 2010 by General Blaspheme

Darkthrone - Panzerfaust

Genres: Black Metal
Label: Moonfog

Darkthrone’s fifth album, the first on Moonfog, is a classic of the black metal genre, and with good reason.
Always concerned about The Riff, Fenriz wrote tons of them for this album and all of them are great.
Some are not anywhere close to a “black metal” riff, but punk or death metal played blackened, which is a beginning of the departure from black metal that eventually happened with Darkthrone.
I’m not going to wax poetic on it. If you’re a fan of black metal in general, and you don’t own this album, there’s a problem. Pantera fans on this disc would find some parts of this album tantalizing, doom fans would love the song “Quintessence”, and death metal fans would have a feast of riffs here to enjoy.
It’s not Darkthrone’s best, but it’s one of them. 8.5 out of 10.
