Cry - Eternal Screams of Silence

Genres: Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal
Label: Independent Net Release

Sitting at four tracks long, Cry’s demo is short and sweet, and mostly to the point.
DSBM with touches of traditional black metal is what you’ll find here. For the most part is not exactly something new. But that’s not to say it’s uninspired. Rather, I find it the opposite; inspired and inspiring as well.
It shows a greatness that is not fully realized. This is a man to watch, folks. I think he might be able to make a name for himself in the metal world if he keeps doing music like this.
7 out of 10.

Track By Track:

Rain – Starting off with just that, the sound of rain and thunder, then a warbly, high-pitched keyboard with tortured vocals. Cry’s first track at first seems to be another DSBM cliche. But then at 54 seconds into the song, the violin kicks in and takes the song into another level. Then at the 3:50 mark bass and drums com into the picture and wow. It becomes great, but unfortunately the song ends not even a minute later.

In Dreams of Depression – This instrumental consists of a keyboard piano line that sounds a lot like the track before. The piano changes up, getting faster, and although making the song more interesting, as a whole there is nothing new here. Good, and in no way superfluous, but nothing we haven’t heard before.

Hand Full of Scars – Wow. Starting off with some nice keys and whispering that moves between right, center, and left speaker channels, then going into a nice drum, bass, and key driven DSBM. This is the crown jewel of the demo. “Hand Full of Scars” kicks ass, and I’ll be honest, this is what I hope Cry sounds like in the future.

Sui-Cide – Starting off with drums and keys, with whispers in the far back, it ends the same way. It’s super short at 1:20 long, but serves it’s purpose as an outro.
